A particular kind of space

Writing Practice

Not advice. Not therapy.

Everything at Velkyr is framed as adult learning and personal writing practice. No numbers are shared. No one tells you what to do. The work is in putting experience into words.

Adult 40+

Designed for mid-life reflection

The workshops are shaped around the questions that tend to surface in the second half of adult life — inheritance, accumulation, obligation, legacy — and the writing that can bring clarity to them.

Small Groups

Unhurried, considered sessions

Groups of eight to twelve. No one is rushed to share. The tone is that of a reading room — attentive, quiet, collegial. Participants often return across multiple programmes.

Locating Context

Written with Singapore in mind

The materials draw on essays and stories from Southeast Asian writers as well as international voices — recognising that money stories are shaped by the particular households, cultures, and generations one comes from.

Money Literacy

General understanding, not planning

Velkyr's work sits in the space of money literacy — how we think and write about finances, not how to manage them. It is general education, positioned for readers who want to understand their own story, not receive a recommendation.

Continuity

A practice you can sustain

From the six-week workshop to the monthly reading evenings, the structure is designed so that writing about money becomes a regular, sustainable practice — something to return to across the years.

Frequently asked

Do I need any prior writing experience?

No. The workshops are designed for people who want to write about their own experience, not for those who already write. The exercises are structured and supported. Participants range from those who have not written since school to those who keep regular journals.

Is this financial advice or counselling?

No. Velkyr is an adult learning and writing programme. Nothing discussed in sessions constitutes financial advice, investment guidance, or regulated financial service. No personal numbers are shared or discussed. The work is entirely concerned with writing about experience and assumptions.

Where do sessions take place?

Sessions are held at our space at 14 Wallich Street, Singapore 078881, in a room set up for quiet writing — small tables, good light, tea available. The address is in the Tanjong Pagar district, close to Tanjong Pagar MRT.

What is the group size for the six-week workshop?

Groups are kept to eight to twelve participants. This allows for meaningful small-group sharing without anyone feeling exposed or hurried. Places are limited; the programme tends to fill several weeks before each cohort begins.

Can I use the notebook without attending the workshop?

Yes. The Money Story Notebook is designed as a standalone resource with its own orientation video. Some people use it to prepare for the workshop; others use it entirely on its own. It covers the same themes at a self-directed pace.

How do I pay and is there a refund arrangement?

Payment details are provided at the time of reservation. For the six-week workshop and monthly subscription, places are held on receipt of payment. Our cancellation and transfer policy is set out in the terms sent with each booking confirmation.
